SUCCESS STORIES

Atlantic Makers Ltd

Atlantic Makers Ltd, a new fine furniture making workshop and training hub in Bude, North Cornwall is creating opportunities for local craftspeople and giving young adults the chance to train as furniture makers. Supported by the Access to Finance programme, the Collective is the brainchild of directors Jonathan Walter, Tom McIntyre, Alastair Bremner and Rob Ball who met at the Rowden Atelier Woodworking School. The purpose-built workshop not only produces exceptional handmade furniture, but also benefits the local community by providing local craftspeople with space and support to help them grow their own businesses.

After coming up with the idea for the Atlantic Makers Collective, the four directors contacted the team at Access to Finance, which provides one-to-one support on all aspects of business finance. As a result, the Collective successfully secured over £19,000 worth of grant funding from the BIG Productivity Fund to cover 45% of fit out costs for the building, which included dividing up the space, fitting flooring and installing machinery in the main workshop.
